The kind of people who got into college with the lowest SATs and who took the dumbest classes with the dumbest classmates taught by the dumbest professors.That's what kind of people.
Honestly, a conversation between the mom and the principal ahead of time would likely have saved a lot of this drama.
EXACTLY. Instead of breaking the rules and then getting all bent out of shape when you don't get the pass that you expected, why not ask for a dispensation ahead of time? But I've never been a big believer of the "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" philosophy.
Really? What is this world coming to? I don't care about any stupid rules! This sweet little girl should've been allowed to come to school with her head shaven due to her support of her friend! The stupid members of the school board are just that, stupid! Why would a nine-year-old girl go to school with a shaved head without a good reason to do so? How many kids, girls and boys, do you see wandering around with shaved heads if they didn't receive a scheduled haircut? These people clearly were not thinking. Every single one of them needs a swift kick up the you-know-what with the bottom of a football cleat!
So a Neo-Nazi 9yo can then shave his head and show up at the school and its ok?

Yes....on that note...a dentist could have gotten 70 or 100 on his State Boards...
Mine was second in his class. There is truly a big difference....same license, though.
There is a differnce in diplomas from Harvard or Western State in Gunnison, CO.

This child is a student attending a charter school. Which means the parents actively chose for her to attend. Which you'd think would indicate they were well aware of the rules including dress/appearance code. This particular charter school has a rule that specifically prohibits shaved heads. Which leads me to believe shaved heads have a specific and negative association in that area (ie gang affiliation or other ). While this child and her parents seem to have honorable intentions, they shouldn't have been surprised at the reaction of the school. They can't pick and choose for whom the rules apply without opening themselves up to legal action. The way to do it would have been to get the exemption ahead of time. In any event the girl was allowed back in school and it appears that the board will consider her case. Due process in practice. I don't see the problem.
There are a few things that make this story a bit eyebrow raising to me.
1. Tthe school made a point of prohibiting girls from shaving their heads before this incident. That's an unusual restriction for a school to make. Have they had problems in the past with little girls wanting to share their heads? Why?
2. More interesting, it is the sort of restriction that would stand out to a parent reading the rules who wanted to see if they get away with pushing a boundary. What a coinky-dink that the school would happen to have this unusual restriction, and then one of the students would just coincidentally break it.
3. It's especially suspicious to me that the parents didn't tell the girls teachers or the principal before sending the girl to school--usually a parent would do that to ensure there wouldn't be any bullying or other problems.
If you want my opinion, I suspect the parents get a kick out of challenging authority, and used their child's good intentions as an excuse to do so.
So what happens when the next child wants to dye their hair pink in support of breast cancer awareness? What about wearing pink scrunchies or pink barrettes?
The other girl's mothers statement seems a bit odd: "I didn't realize that hair was such an important aspect of a child at school," Campbell said. "For a little girl to be really brave and want to shave her head in support of her friend, I thought that was a huge statement and it builds character in a child,"
That is ridiculous! They backtracked pretty fast, though!
