Don't forget that we must EMPATHIZE with them as well.
You can use the internet for productive purposes like research & sharing knowledge. You can also manipulate it for destructive purposes like forwarding viruses & involving in illegal activities. Think of any religion as a forum without a moderator. You are free to use or misuse it as you want. Internet or the forum is not bad. Its the people who abuse it. Use the hammer as a tool to fix furniture or use it as a weapon to hurt someone. Dont blame the hammer or the people who own one, blame the criminal who abused it. Muslim 'kids' were killed in that massacre. Islam doesnt preach killing innocent 'kids', muslims or not. The religion is very similar to judaism & christianity with same prophets & stories. The criminals minds use the story of abraham as a justification to sacrifice their own kids in the name of god.

I could go through the list of the various tactical and strategic reasons of why one would.

A: An open forum is not the place to go into such a discussion.
B: Writing people off as "sick minds" be it a school shooter or a serial killer is really not that useful when one wants to predict, stop, and apprehend. "Sick mind" may make points with the press, may be popular in talk with the general public, but when it comes to the reality of tackling the issue, it's useless.

Well, predictably a number of people here are choosing to blame all 1 billion Muslims on this planet because perhaps 100,000 are doing evil things. Perhaps, we should blame all Christians when some fundamentalist nut murders people working at an abortion clinic. I can come up with some other murders committed by those overtly identifying themselves as Christians too.
I can tell you as we speak that many people in the Muslim community around this world are outraged by these acts. Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim nation and the bulk of those killed in this attack were other Muslims. Many of you have no clue, but there are any number of Muslims in this country and abroad cooperating with the FBI and CIA to root out terrorists. There are accounts of Muslim people protecting Christians from harm in Pakistan and at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi when a band of terrorists took hostages there.
Stop painting with such a broad brush. Stop asserting that all Muslims are bad or belong to an "evil religion" simply because of what a small minority does.
Yes, we must recognize that the western world has to deal with a small minority of violent Muslim terrorists, but stop demonizing an entire religion in the process.
What people don't see in here is that the attackers were not even Pakistani/Afghan/Indian/Iranian...they were Arabs and by many first hand accounts I watched on TV had a Saudi accent/dialect. All 9/11 hijackers were...Saudia Arabian..our biggest ally.
I see an increase in the old historically intolerant Christian attitude, after all, these "Muslims" who do things of a violent nature are no more doing the work of their religion than those who blow up abortion clinics are doing for Christianity. Violence has always been the weakness in man that was addressed in so many theological treatises of all religions. Look at Ireland, Vietnam, Cambodia, Latin and south America for the necessary clues that speak directly to an intolerance of others religion being the foundation of human organized violence.
When the western press determines that it may be instructional to educate rather than to incite hatred we may just see these so called messengers of Islam become the real life idiots they are. I'm reading many hateful posts here from those who have been instructed in their own religion to turn away from hate, what does this say about anyone shouting the praises of "their" religion while ignoring it's message to love? I hate the violence but not the religion of those who fail to adhere to their own theo-principles. I'll say it again, fortunately for us, most of the worlds Christians and Muslims are NOT extremists, and simply want to live in peace...
