I'd rather the trash man picks up garbage extra early than to see my cans still on the curb at 5PM when I come back...
Okay, so he was definitely in the wrong for picking up trash just a little after 5 a.m. -- and if I was a disturbed resident, I would be angry, too!
But 30 days! C'mon. I don't care if the city official quoted in the article did say they tried "everything" else, 30 days in jail is just ridiculous. How about a few HOURS in jail or something like a $500.00 fine? (I didn't see those listed in the official's list of "everything".) I think that would more than sufficient deterrent for a repeat offense!

I agree... A few hours in detention would suffice. It would be enough to anger the guy without interfering with his family to that extent. And also, this should fall on the employer more than anything. Sure, HE fired the truck up and drove it, but I'm sure it was under his supervisor's orders. What's he to do? Refuse and get fired?
That blows my mind. Especially since it's his first offense AND because he's just the driver... Dude, I can't imagine myself in that position and being responsible for working too early...
I mean unless the company explicitly states that you can NOT pickup before 7am. GEEZ!
“Give him a warning,” attorney Kimberly Bandoh said. “I mean he's the employee. He's not the employer. Sentencing him to jail is doing what?”
If fines haven't worked, then why would she think that a warning would? I do agree that 30 days is steep, but it sounds like the only way to get through to these guys is to jail them.
Garbage pickup is way early here, at 5 something AM.
Putting garbage men in jail for being at work too early but letting thugs and hood rats run the streets when they have multiple offenses is the epitome of stupidity.
It says alot about the community when "911 lights up when trash haulers come before 7 a.m.".
911? Really?
