It surely would be tough to fight a 3 billion dollar empire that knows your deepest, darkest secrets.....

We had a family friend once who was a scientologist. I lost all respect for the religion after reading about a woman they murdered by locking her in a room and starving her to death not even giving her water . Sickening.

Scientology is a cult...

It's pretty crazy that some very well known people buy into the whole program, but that can be said about religion as well.
HBO did a good job.... here is a link to a trailer for it:

Also Scientologists have put youtube videos to combat the HBO special and they are the top of the list of youtube selections so if you are searching on there, just be aware of this.

The irony...

An aside:
Jesus probably existed. Though certainly not as a water-walking spawn of a deity, he likely existed in some form as a rabble-rousing cult-leader in the early first century (the Roman Empire probably teemed with such figures) who was put down by annoyed local authorities. Of course, this opportunistic character probably bore little resemblance on almost any level to the later cult that developed around him and still exists today.
Yes, I've met the religious scholar Reza Aslan, who assured me that there was in fact a dude that fit the Jesus profile walking around the Middle East doing stuff at approximately the correct time in history. In addition, it seems that the magic zombie Jesus is a relatively modern invention, and I'm sure 2,000 years from now L Ron will probably be some sort of magical zombie as well.

Scientology is no more wacked out than any other belief business. Running from athiest to diest onto thiest and into monothiest runs the gambit. Today the diest and thiest have fallen by the wayside like so many belief systems have thru out history.. Scientology is just a newer one that was bound to pop up to fill the chasm between athiesm and monothiesm...

Atheists don't have the types of beliefs you're referring to, so it would be rather difficult for them to have whacked out beliefs about religion. I know religious people throughout the ages have pushed the nonsense that not believing is a belief just the same as believing, but even the most dimwitted among us can clearly see the stupidity in this line of thought after taking just a brief second to think about the claim.

All religions are "made up" . What bible is the correct version? Which religion is the right one? Nobody knows much except what has been echoed by people who don't know any more than we do.

The BBC also had a Panorama show on the subject too.
