Id never do this, but - if I did, Id go for a temporary insanity plea.
Just throw myself on the mercy of the court, and say, "Im so sorry! I completely lost my mind!"
Insanity plea is a very specific defense and wouldn't apply here. You have to actually not understand what you're doing or the moral weight of it, it doesn't apply to bad judgement.
The most disturbing part of the story for me was the fact that she has 5 kids. The world doesn't need more people. There is nothing more selfish than procreating like crazy.
So much for the confidentiality policy of Alcoholics Anonymous. While courts have differed on the validity of that policy most members believe they are safe in sharing their experiences with their sponsor. Think again.

Well, that's your moral judgement of her state of mind. I would think anyone could theorize that she isnt right in the head.
The best judgement she has shown thus far (maybe even in her whole life) is not discussing it with the Police, lol. From what I read she is an alcoholic, in the process of learning to fight that addiction. She may have blacked out and have little to no conscious memory of the whole affair.
The news article states she was a Mormon teacher at one time. At some point in her life, she went from a rather strict moral code to what appears to be hardly any at all. You can blame any number of things for that happening, but in the end - the woman lost her mind.

Per the article, they divorced after 15 years of marriage when the husband returned from deployment with PTSD.
Bush's fault again, as usual
Growing up in the Mormon Church, Lehnardt never touched a drop of alcohol before her husband of 15 years came back from a deployment to Iraq eith Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and anger issues in 2010, the source said.
