So leaving 1 cop on the force is "safer" than them working with a new mayor over their safety concerns? Yeah, I don't have full story on this, just what the news are saying... doesn't portray a good picture though.

The previous Mayor held the office for 37 years. Something tells me that corruption might have been the cause of the resignations. Parma's police force has a bit of a reputation, and it ain't a good one either. There are several towns in the bootheel that are the same way. I've heard rumors that several hard drives were wiped clean also.

Just to put this in perspective, you are talking about a town of 700 that had six police officers.

Sounds like the NY Daily News is more interested in spinning the story than reporting what really happened. Go figure.

Well if those that resigned have indeed lined their pockets, making it look racial is a pretty good cover apparently. More drive-by media fun!

Anyone have the back story on this town not the headline spin? If there was a little more why and what maybe we could make sense of the story.

Don't fall for the bait. Even the people in town do not think it is racial but instead more likely corruption. Also, there are several threads on this, you might want to join them and maybe ask a mod to merge this thread.

Stories like this break my heart.

I'm so proud of this woman for being a woman of honor and courage, in spite of the ignorance and bigotry surrounding her.

How can we keep hoping to move forward, progress, growth, and encourage change when things like this happen?

And I'm sure someone will argue that it has nothing to do with her race or gender...but I've been reading about her and there's nothing she has public said, or no issue on her platform, that is so outrageous or obscene/inappropriate for this people to just get up and quit.

What other justifiable reasons are there for these folks to just get up and quit after her election?

Unacceptable.

Uh.....corruption. There's countless small towns like this where you have an entrenched power group that all stick their dirty little fingers into the town treasury. This new mayor threatened to upset the apple cart, she shined a light and all the roaches are scattering.

What normal town have you heard of where the town's books and financial documents aren't keep in a town facility but at the bookkeeper's home.
