Go ahead and get rid of backpage, something else will replace it. Ish happens when you are doing something ilicit. When tragedies occur we decide to find the conduit for the incident and ban it.

A prostitute gets murdered. "ban the website that facilitated the meeting!"
Everyone takes risk everyday. Some more than others. It doesn't work out as well for those people. It could have been Facebook, CL, tinder, okcupid, POF and hundreds of others.
Any woman meeting a strange she meet on a seedy webpage man in a hotel is living on borrowed time. The johns may also be living on borrowed time.
Cops do stings on backpage, they show busts all time on the series Sex Slaves on MSNBC and they set up a lot of the meetings via backpage. It's as entertaining as To Catch A Predator to see these married johns getting busted.

I dont think Backpage is the problem, in that,it wouldnt exist without Human-trafficking being allowed to exist. I dont see how an Attorney General places responsibility for that on a Website.
Its the world's responsibility to put their money where their politically correct mouths are, and crack down on the practice - then sites like Backpage would have no reason to exist.

This same thing happened with craigslist a couple of years ago, which moved the prostitutes over to backpage.
The reality is that backpage is responsible for the massive decline in street prostitution, and street prostitution is a heck of a lot more dangerous than prostituting out of a hotel with a backpage ad. But the backpage ads also make human trafficking a lot easier and less risky for the traffickers. So, that's the tradeoff.
The easier it is, though, for prostitutes to find their customers online and in one place, and trade information about those customers, the safer life will be for them in comparison. It also creates an easy way to connect escorts with resources to help them get out. Of course, the problem is that their pimps are the ones posting the ads; they do not actually get access to those resources directly most of the time. Which leads to the other advantage... the more a prostitute can manage her own business out of a relatively safe hotel, the less they need a pimp and the better off they are too.
Banning the ads on backpage, just like on craigslist, will push them more underground, push more back to the streets, and in general lead to more, not less, murders and other violent crimes.
Maybe we should just legalize prostitution. Keeping it as a black market activity only makes it even more dangerous than it already is.
