Hopefully this family gets some measure of justice out of this. I really detest the feds getting involved in local crimes but when entire local justice system is set up to protect criminally negligent cops then I guess its the lesser of two evils.
If more cops faced the same when they go off the reservation then maybe they will start thinking before they act.
Now lets just hope the court follows through hands out some jail time for every one of them that set this in motion starting with this one.
Here's an interview with the parent's. While they have indicted the deputy who used false information to get the search warrant, the grand jury did not recommend charging the swat team. Ex-deputy Nikki Autry indicted in flash-bang case - CNN.com
wow, that war on drugs sure is working out well, isn't it?
Took a while for this to happen. Wheels of justice and all that. It took a measure of years before Lon Horiuchi was indicted for killing Vicky Weaver, at Ruby Ridge as well. Even the most blatant cases of excessive force, even out right murder, don't get prosecuted quickly, when its a LEO doing the killing/maiming. Unless charges of racism pop up, and the AG is sent in.
In Horiuchi's case, JM surprised anything ever came of it. Of course, those were different times. In today's climate, be would have skated. Weaver was a "white seperatist," So the killing of his son and wife would be cheered. Hell, by some quarters, it was then. There's a thread on this grenade incident down the board somewhere. That was one, of what seemed like a bunch, of incide ts of tac teams going over the line, in a short space of time. Some of those others were pretty bad, as well. I wonder, what happened in the other cases?
Like the elderly man that was shot in bed, after an officer saying "he thought he smelled something that could be drugs" prompted a judge to issue a no knock and a SWAT team went in. Well, at least there's some action taking place on one of these really questionable tac raids.

This particular case with the burned child isn't about the combat tactics of police and the ex deputy isn't being charged with throwing a grenade but rather about a cop lying to get a judge to issue a search warrant.
