This is by a guy who's way more free-market and way more anti-progressive than your uncle who swoons over Mark Levin and Sean Hannity.

But, hey, can't ignore facts! Unless you're a conservative (or a liberal).

The author of that opinion piece has really poor reasoning skills since he doesn't factor in the scenarios.

He counts every person killed by the police including criminals actively committing violent crimes and are an immediate danger to the officer and/or the public.

Let's take the case of Devon Guisherd. Police were serving an arrest warrant for Devon, because Devon shot and killed a pregnant woman. When the police tried to arrest Devon, he ran from the cops. He then pulled out a gun and shot one officer before being shot and killed.

Yes, let's all cry for poor Devon.

What kind of country do we live in where you can't murder a pregnant woman and shoot cops?

Cop hit, suspect killed in NE Philly shootout

your one case does not negate the primary point of the writer. All it does is illustrate one case out of thousands.

I can bring up the poor unarmed man executed by police in Pasco WA , in full public view, completely unarmed, completely out numbered and trying to surrender to a large group of police who are shooting at him without just cause.

try this video it clearly shows how American police deal with a man hold a knife and how British officers (armed) deal with knife holding men....
(hint our forces look really bad compared to our British friends)

I hate to tell you this, but you're just wrong.

The opinion piece links to and gets its data from this site: Killed By Police - 2015

Look at the very first person listed as killed by police, Brian Stortzum.

Brian was holding a woman and three girls at gun point threatening to kill the mother. He refused to put down the weapon and kept pointing it at the females.

Coroner identifies man killed in officer-involved shooting in Horry County : News : CarolinaLive.com

Do you believe the cops should have waited for him to begin executing his hostages?

The next person listed would be Dontae Martin (the three between Brian Stotzum and Dontae didn't have any details or even a name; therefore, determining what happened at this point is impossible).

Dontae, who has been arrested 20 times including the possession of cocaine and heroin, drunk driving, domestic violence, assault and child endangerment, crashed into a neighbor's parked car. Another neighbor called police. When police arrived they approached the car, Dontae had yet to exit, when Dontae pointed a gun at officers.

Witness to Dontae Martin shooting speaks | Dayton News | www.whio.com

Quote:
Witnesses heard deputies telling Martin to drop the weapon multiple times before shots were fired, the sheriff said.
The officers immediate removed Martin from the car and began performing CPR until the medics arrived. He died at the hospital.

So, do police (the ones who immediately started CPR) have to wait to be shot before they can shoot a person threatening their lives with a gun?

The next person listed would be Jerrod Tyre.

Police were called to respond to a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, Tyre had a handgun and was randomly shooting. Police attempted to negotiate with him, asking him to drop his weapon. He then proceed toward police with his weapon.

Investigation continues into officer involved shooting death in - WTOC-TV: Savannah, Beaufort, SC, News, Weather & Sports

Once again, should be police wait until he shoots them?

The fourth name on the list would be Andre Dontrell Williams.

Police were called by hospital staff for a woman who came there for treatment reporting being raped by Williams.

Officers went to the home with a warrant. Williams was hiding under the bed, and when police found him, he charged them with a knife. Williams was shot and killed.

I guess this could be a concern for knife wielding rapists. But then again, if somehow you are able to keep from raping women and attacking cops with a knife, you probably wouldn't be in such fear of being killed by a cop.

Yeah, it's quite surprising that with just "one out of thousands" being the "exception" and all others being innocent people murdered by cops, everyone I've clicked on so far kind of did it to themselves.
