Anyone heard about this Peeple app that allows you to "rate" people?
Yes, you can be rated even if you don't opt-in and your profile cannot be removed.
A horrible idea that seems almost designed to be abused. If it becomes popular it will probably lead to violence and a whole new cottage industry's worth of lawsuits. It will also bring the art of internet trolling to a whole new level.
“As two empathetic, female entrepreneurs in the tech space, we want to spread love and positivity,” Cordray stressed. “We want to operate with thoughtfulness.”
Exactly the opposite will occur. The founders know full well it will be a platform to enact revenge or character assassination and thus profit from mob mentality. Poetic justice will be if the first few Peeple reviews consist of negative ones of the founders.
Will be lots of friends rating friends 5 stars, and enemies rating enemies 1 star. I predict "U-shaped" distribution of ratings (1 or 5 stars, few in the middle).
But this kind of thing is already done in many venues. OKCupid, work, etc.
Peeple founders blocked "negative" comments on their FB page and are complaining about a parody Twitter handle : @peopleforpeeple (theirs is @peepleforpeople).
This could be the pinnacle of the shaming society and victimhood culture. Document every micro-aggression as a star rating.
