So I guess the mom said if the school has an issue they can talk to her lawyer. I thought there is suppose to be no "religion" in school.? What happened to the separation of church and state?

according to the assignment, The seventh-grade history assignment asked students to name the Five Pillars of Islam and to summarize Islamic beliefs and practices, "Fox and Friends" reported today.

It also provided a barcode for students to scan with their cell phone in order to listen to a Muslim prayer online.

Without context, the whole issue is pretty meaningless.

Separation of church and state does not preclude learning about various religious beliefs and their importance in regards to historical events.

I once had a history course that covered the Soviet Union.

I wasn't so mind-boggling stupid as to think that I was being indoctrinated in Marxism, but rather that I was being taught the history of one of the most significant countries of the 20th century. Which, of course, I was.

I wonder what this moron of a parent will due when it's time to learn about Nazi Germany?

Yup, a simple school assignment, nothing to do with indoctrination.

Another wanna be viral 'hero' wanting the adulation and kudos for standing up to those 'sharia' folks in America.

Islam isn't a country, nor an historical event. Terrible analogies.

I guess the parent said that the school never send home an assignment on christianity .... her words as follows

“How about Christian practices? That sheet has never came [sic] home, this year or last!”

Why do they need to teach Islam in schools? I'm a liberal and that bothers me too. Religion shouldn't be taught in schools. Period.

Hence the need for context.

Seems the mom here got all up in arms instead of asking what you did..."why?" It's "sexier" to get indignant and take it to the media though...

They're not "teaching Islam," for god's sake - they're teaching about Islam. That it exists, what the history of the culture is.

Good grief. If they teach your kids about the Civil Rights movement, do you flip out and pitch a fit because they're teaching your kids to be black?
