This law is a waste of time. Who cares which bathroom people use. If you think you are a woman you should use the woman's room. This is not only over regulating, but will have consequences for transgendered people. Who already have enough problems using the rest room.

That is EXACTLY what my assumption would be.
And what is so uncomfortable about using the bathroom of the gender to which you were born? Every public bathroom that I've ever seen has stalls with doors that can be shut and locked. Anyone who is uncomfortable doing their business in view of other people (and this discomfort may have everything or nothing to do with gender identity) can use one of these stalls and have all the privacy they want.
Why? You think Laverne Cox should be using the men's room?
I don't know who Laverne Cox is. But if she has the biological "equipment" of a man, then she should be using the men's room.
And yes, if a man follows my daughter into the lady's room, I will assume that he is up to no good and respond accordingly. I would rather have to apologize for being wrong than have to face the consequences of being right, and not doing anything about it.
The bill is well intended, but seems pointless and ineffective.
No trangendered woman is likely to use a men's room, whether out of principle, or out of fear.
If he/she walks into the women's bathroom with no ulterior motive and uses a woman's stall, who's going to know?
If there is an ulterior motive, that is going to constitute a crime much worse than using the wrong bathroom, and this person will be prosecuted for that.
A friend of a friend is trans (woman > man) and no matter which bathroom he chooses, he gets dissed. People confront him, and tell him he is using the wrong bathroom for both the men's and women's. He seeks out single stalls because there have been too many incidents.
Any man who is trying to be a fake trans person in order to see women going to the restroom already had problems this law doesn't address anyway. Why waste time on this. People just want to pee in peace. Why is that so hard?
Why is this such a big issue in this day and age when colleges have coed bathrooms and have had no issues? Actually, there were those kinds of coed bathrooms more than 25 years ago . . . at least. Moreover, I am pretty sure it is extremely rare for a transgender woman to molest little girls in the women's bathroom (the mental image cued by the proponents of these laws). Have you heard of such a case? I haven't.
I am sure this is a common occurrence in South Dakota. lol
