Thats been my experience with swans which makes me think there was something seriously wrong with this bird for the woman to handle it in such a manner.

It was swimming in the water. It died when left out of the water. Obviously it must have been a fish.

Nope, that's pretty much how you grab a swan or a goose coming at you. Right behind the head as it strikes at you is about the only method to get it under control, but as you notice from the further pictures, she didn't do much more than grab the head. Which is why she probably got some big bruises from the swan. It might have bit her too after it got loose.

In any case, any 'news' article that claimed a swan died from being pulled out of the water needs to be put in the absurd pile.

I feel so bad for this poor fish. Imagine dying because you can't breath? That is about the worst way to go. So sad.
