This crash is why the term "T Bone" was coined. Hit the other bus dead center and formed a perfect T.

Not to make light of the tragedy, I take the bus daily and see people standing at the front talking to the driver all the time. Even in a minor accident those people are at risk of severe injury or death.

Still, buses are much safer on a per mile basis than cars. Every mode of transportation including walking has its own risks.

I'm no expert but it looks like higher than expected (for a downtown area) speed was involved?

Of course; I don't know anything about Newark but in our downtown area it's stop & go every 15 ft, during the day at least.

Two motor vehicles crashed?!?

Good lord. Everything I have ever known or believed has been turned upside down. I will never travel on a road again. It is gyrocopters and pogo sticks for me from now on.

The driver was 70 years old, making a medical incident such as a heart attack certainly a possibility.

There's no protection on a bus. You're not wearing a seat belt and there are no air bags. In the event of an accident, you'll likely be injured in some way.

Very sad. Now we need to ban buses to protect our people. (sarcasm).
