I hate those things. When I was snorkeling and one came out of the reef at me, I swam away so fast that my former husband said I left a wake.
I wonder if they taste like chicken?
Former husband? Is this one of those stories where if he could just have swam a little faster would end with "I swam away so fast my former wife said I left a wake"?
unagi is very good, but that's sushi. This says barbecued eel.
No, unagi is grilled eel. You never eat raw eel. You have to grill it first and it's really delicious on a bed of sushi white rice. These grilled eel are very valuable.

One night I was on my motorcycle going home from my girlfriends house, about 11 pm. I rode out to the main highway and waited for a few cars to go by. This one truck went by and I pulled out behind it. There was no traffic coming so I sped up to pass it. I noticed water on the road. It was coming from the top of the truck in front of me. It was splashing out the top and onto the road. This truck looked like a milk truck with a shiny, polished tank. I have seen these trucks before and they have 3 or 4 big cover lids that cover the filler holes on top the tank. Only there were no covers on the filler holes. All of a sudden a lot of water started splashing out all over the road along with something else. I slowed and started to dodge things on the road. I noticed they were large eels, huge one, the ones like you see on tv. Not believing what I am seeing I slow and let him pull away. I continue on dodging these until I turn off the highway as I make my way home. Try dodging these things at night on a motorcycle.
I found out later. People eel pot like they crab pot. Good money in it I heard. They keep them alive in big tanks, and trucks come and pick them up to sell them up north. I heard they are a delicacy up north. Not sure if they still do it. But this was back in the 70`s when this happened.
