Five engineering students drown in Telangana reservoir while taking

Quote:
Craze for taking selfie on mobile phone proved fatal for five engineering students, including two girls, who drowned in a reservoir in Warangal district of Telangana on Saturday.

According to the police, the six students went to Dharmasagar reservoir, a popular tourist attraction in the district in the morning for an outing. One of the girls, Ramya Pratyusha, tried to take a selfie along with the others, standing on a rock in the middle of the water body. However, the rock was slippery and she fell into the water.

In order to save her, the other students got into the water, one after the other. While Pratyusha managed get back to the shore, the others drowned.

I'm usually skeptical and this is another time. I don't understand how one person goes in who can't swim, so 4 other people go in to help, who also can't swim.

give it a few days, pratyusha will be investigated..

It's tragic for anyone to end up like that. People, teach your kids to swim!! My mom never knew how to swim and she grew up in Tidewater, VA. Conversely, I lived in a predominantly black area of TN and the pools there are full of kids who know how to swim. Necessity being the mother of invention...

My sort-of step-grandson was 3 when I saw him splashing around unattended in his backyard pool during a very miserable gathering. (I would have preferred drowning - sorry for the sarcasm) It scared me so bad to think no one watches him swimming I signed him up for swimming lessons and took him for 6 Saturdays in a row.

Learning to swim depends a lot more on your friends and habits than on what race you are. If your friends often swim in a lake or pool, you're likely to learn it too. If they don't, you're likely to not care enough to bother.

Jesus Christ people! 1 woman fell while taking a selfie. 4 people jumped into save her and all died trying.

Darwin award? Oh we are so much better sitting behind a computer we can mock their deaths! Just...Jesus Christ!

Nobody is mocking there deaths, only the story. You seem to post a lot of comments about how threads shouldn't be here and people are wrong for posting in them.

That is so tragic.
I consider knowing how to swim as a life skill. Everyone should at least know how to tread water and do the doggie paddle.
Usually when we hear about young adults drowning like this it is due to booze or drugs being involved.

Pretty sad.
