Speaking of warming up cars...

Taylor, 24, left the car idling unlocked at his girlfriend's house on a frigid morning last week. When he returned a few minutes later, he spied the $128 ticket for leaving a vehicle unattended. Taylor posted a photo of the ticket on his Facebook page and railed against the "dip----" Roseville police officer who left it there for "wasting the taxpayer's money." (He later "retracted" the insult.)

Like I said in the other thread, it's illegal in most states.

Aside from the obvious that it could be stolen, neighborhood children could climb in and put it in gear (on purpose or not).

So a driveway is not private property?

How many cars still use Keys?

I know on my Car it can be started, and run, but if I'm Not IN The car with the Fob, The car will not go out of Park.

The model up from my model can do remote start. But the car will still not go anywhere without the fob being inside it,

And the Remote Start has a 5? minute timer, and will shut off and requires you to be in the car to start it after that, It My understanding is it won't just let you sit in it and run the heat, without you confirming every 5? minutes you want the car to stay on. (To prevent carbon monoxide in an enclosed space)

It sounds to me like the department needs a new chief. I'm sure they have more pressing matters than to be driving around looking for ways to punish tax paying citizens.

but Police Chief James Berlin wasn't backing down, saying you can't leave vehicles running.

"This is purely a public safety issue," he tells Fox 2. "You see it all the time, people hop in a running car and steal them. Something bad happens when that occurs."
The car was on private property. Following this police chief's logic, it should also be illegal to leave one's house door unlocked as people may enter the home and commit robbery or murder. Unlocked doors are purely a public safety issue I take it.

Have extra keys and lock the car, or sit in the car for a few minutes while it warms up. A car doesn't need to warm up long. If he's waiting for the heater to heat the interior, that's just silly. Put on your coat, get in your car, and leave. The car will heat up inside faster with it moving.
