Did anyone catch this story? I think the winds were 70+mph. Very sad. The driver lost his life. I grew up in Tidewater and I've always been nervous crossing that bridge. But more for the tunnels. I never thought about being blown off of it. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...dent/97713142/

Sad, but I swear this happens about once a year and the common factor is always high winds. I thought they shut the CBBT down when it was blowing over a certain amount?

I don't know about that one but all they do in Maryland for the William Preston Lane bridge (Bay Bridge) is usually just issue high wind warnings. They will shut it down but not often.

That seems to be the case when things are blown off bridges...
I'm not normally one to support lawsuits, but it can be the only way to get the government especially to do the right things, like build a better railing and shut the bridge if needed. I hope the driver's family sues and wins so it gets those changes started.

According to the local news I am seeing the driver was attempting to pass another truck and went over the guard rail.
The driver should know the limitations of his truck. That includes driving in strong cross winds.
