My SS card has 'NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES' on it. Seems like using the number for credit checks would be a type of identification.

You would think so, but it's allowed for insurance in my state. Some states don't allow insurance companies to base rates on it. I understand having to give it when you want to buy something on credit, but for insurance rates seems out of line.

But it's allowed, and that's the way DNA will go too if government requires everyone to give it and they put it into a database.
