Money is money & a $10 tip is good, whether it is in coins or bills. I think the restaurateur was wrong to make an issue out of this & I hope patrons do show up with stacks of coins to pay.
What's a bigger nothingburger - the payment in quarters, or the 'shaming' on Facebook? (which would require said person to actually feel ashamed that he paid in quarters)
PS - Why does clueless Yahoo use as one of the photos in the story a shot of a pile of collectible silver Washington and Standing Liberty quarters? Accumulated 21st century change and coins that have long left circulation (I find a silver Washington in change less than once/year, and have never found a Standing Liberty in four-plus decades of checking my change)
Paying for a meal in quarters is obnoxious. The restaurant is right, they're not coinstar.
I agree that is just rude. Paying the tip in quarters is one thing, but paying the entire bill in change is extremely inconsiderate. As someone who spent many years working jobs for tips, I can say that on the few occasions I had customers pull crap like that, not only did I not get a tip for counting out all the change, but usually when I finally got around to counting it all out, it was short, and I had to make up the difference out of my own pocket. Large amount of change = scammers.

If you read the report, he did not pay the entire bill in change, he also used a $20 bill. He made up the rest, including a $10 tip in quarters. As a former waitress, I would be happy with a $10 tip, ( on a small check) no matter how it was paid.

I agree. It's poor restaurant etiquette to pay with change.
There are lots of people who want to dine out in restaurants. They shouldn't be. They don't have the social graces for being in most restaurants, anything above a fast food type place. They will only embarrass themselves and cause problems for the waitstaff and other diners.
When will restaurants and other service vendors learn it's rarely good to shame customers.
I agree they should not have shamed him publicly. They should have just asked him privately to not come back.
I think a better idea is to post a sign stating the forms of payment that will be accepted and that loose change cannot be used to pay a bill.
