I agree about EBT and soda. WIC does there thing where one type of item ie; ginger ale or seltzer’s can be approved while grape soda is out.
For instance, people receiving WIC can buy whole grain cereals, but not fruity peppbles.
I think that would benefit many people. A free cooking class would be nice too.
It would be awesome if people were offered cooking classes. But I remember how much I had to buy when I first started cooking. From spices to pots and pans and cooking utensils. I still want a decent knife set and I keep putting that off because of the cost.
And when you get people who live in places with no stove, like the ones who live in motel rooms, it gets a little difficult. Some people are working two jobs. The last thing they want to do is come home and cook and do dishes. And some people just plain don't like to cook. I'm one of them and even if I like learning to cook and eating what I put together, if I had a choice, I'd never cook again. It's just not something I really enjoy.
I'm sure the state you live in has issues that need to be addressed as well. So since you obviously don't like California and will never live there, why are you worrying about them?
Probably for the same reason people post on parenting boards even though they aren't parents.
Soda can't eat through leather. It was likely something else that did. If it literally worked like acid, it will kill anyone who drank it. There are people who drink it their entire lives with no problems.
This happened in the mid-1940s so who knows. But, it was a soda drink concentrate as we just discussed this the other day and she said it was a cola drink. I have no idea how long the concentrate and shoe were in contact.
None of that is relevant! (For the record, Coke dissolved nails 60 years ago when I was a kid, and I'm still here)
Californikation has much more serious issues than kid's meals
One thing at a time babe. I think the state is over regulated myself. I live in Nevada and we are sister states, but pretty much polar opposites in terms of banning stuff. In California they try to ban harmful things. In Nevada, we just tax it, regulate it, and extract your money.
If it was up to me, a kids meal offering would also extend to a green tea and juice mix with some fizzy water sweetened by stevia with a biodegradable straw. It’s always good to sneak nutrients into kids !!
My kids liked cauliflower with cheese sauce as much as Mac n cheese

And there is nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is that companies are being double subsidized to essentially kill our people. And the poorest among us take it the worst.
Why does Subway use a chemical commonly used in yoga mats in their bread in America, but not in Europe where it is banned?

I'm still here too, but my teeth aren't.
I stopped drinking the poison in my 20s, when my dentist found 13 cavities and said they were from the acid in all the soda I drank. But by that time, it had already eroded my enamel so much that I kept having dental problems, until I eventually wound up in dentures. At least my stomach lining was able to recover.
I've warned my own child of the dangers of soda, and she refuses to even try it.
Unfortunately, many restaurants will give kids free soda with kids' meals, but not milk or 100% juice. So my daughter either drinks water, or I pay extra for a healthy drink.
I think I like the idea of turning the tables, so that people pay extra for feeding their kids junk instead of paying extra for the healthy options.
Probably for the same reason people post on parenting boards even though they aren't parents.
I post on Parenting boards because what you do with your kids will concern me, from letting them run around like wild animals to getting them through college so they can have a decent job. I care because your kids will be the adults making the decisions about our future some day.
The poster who calls California a name obviously doesn't care if the state slides into the ocean. So why the useless energy in being hostile about it?
Its amazing how many people still drink sodas imo. Coke and Pepsi deliver to every one of our convenience stores every single day, orders are usually a couple full pallets of 12 packs, 2 liters, 12 oz cans, etc.
ALOT of people are buying this stuff everyday! Seems like they could create a huge new revenue stream by slapping a sin tax on it, the tobacco and alcohol companies dont seem to mind their products having sin taxes on them, so soda companies probably would not either.

Well, I recall the tobacco industry fought tooth and nail to have their products as the type that can "kill you if used correctly". They also "begrudgingly agreed" that the FDA could also put ads warning people the dangers of smoking for each of their ads as well.

and it turns out those warnings labels on each pack or on the ads, didnt impact sales at all. Cigarettes are one of our top ten best selling products in the stores, its amazing how many we go thru in a weeks time.
