In recalling this case, I was always struck by the naivete' of many of Madoff's high-profile clients, particularly performing artists and similar celebrities.

Investing is not something that can be learned in a short time, but it is a discipline which, due to the economic growth in our advancing and increasingly-complicated society. needs to be presented and tsught as part of a basic education.

Bernard Madoff preyed upon this ignorance, and in the end, got exactly what he deserved; but there are many voices in the Court of Public Opinion practicing variations of the same deceit.

We cannot censor this Tower of Babble in the name of some imaginary "greater common good"; we can only refine the information to allow for more intelligent choices.

I've always felt he was directly responsible for his sons' deaths.

Yes, Andrew died of cancer, but he had been in remission for 8 years. He believed the return of his cancer was due to the stress of the scandal.

He hurt so many people, destroyed lives, destroyed his own family, and his crimes will reverberate for a generation or more.

His crime was STEALING FROM THE RICH, some of his victims wound up owing money because they had profited from the investment

I love how his lawyer said he wasn’t perfect, because no one is. There is a big difference between not being perfect, like you leave your socks on the floor instead of the hamper, and being a thief who stole people’s life savings!

I admired Bernie. He didn't steal from anyone. They begged him to take their money. In the end, nobody lost anything. They just didn't make as much as they thought. Boo hoo. If you want safety, put your money in a FDIC insured bank. Anything else involves risk.
