Gabby Petito’s parents sue Brian Laundrie family’s lawyer Steven Bertolino
The parents of Gabby Petito added attorney Steven Bertolino to a civil lawsuit against Brian Laundrie’s parents on Tuesday, alleging that it was “insensitive, cold-hearted and outrageous” for Bertolino to express the Laundrie family’s “hope” that authorities would find Gabby’s remains in September 2021.
Isn’t it because the Laundrie’s defense could be - “we haven’t seen the final press release by our attorney or - we just trusted our attorney to handle it right.” We didn’t speak, he wasn’t authorized by us to speak on our behalf - thus - giving them a not guilty verdict?
Looks like they try to cast a wider net preventing this?
The lawyer may have a fat liability insurance vs the Laundries?
Or do they want to ensure that the lawyer would be more inclined to settle the case for him and the Laundries??
It could backfire if their no good attorney now is forced to hire a great trial attorney to defend? Perhaps by his insurance company?
An interesting development. Thanks. Doesn’t let me rep you.
Last month, Gabby Petito's parents filed a motion to add the Laundrie family's former attorney as a co-defendant in their lawsuit against Brian Laundrie's parents. Now Chris and Roberta Laundrie's new attorney is asking the judge to deny the motion to add Steven Bertolino, arguing it would create a conflict of interest.
In court filings, they say the Laundries knew the location of Gabby's remains and withheld the information despite a nationwide, multi-agency search to find her.
In early December, they filed a motion to add Steven Bertolino, who represented the Laundrie family at the time, claiming he also knew Gabby was dead and the location of her remains.
Gaby's sue happy parents should maybe take a look at themselves too. Why did their 22 year old daughter feel the need to live in a van and travel all over the country with an abusive guy? Highlighting every part of her life on social media to strangers? She certainly didn't seem to be that grounded and clearly was craving all sorts of attention. I'm guessing her parents weren't that great of parents to her.
Do we have a precedent of the lawyers being sued and forced to disclose the attorney-client privileged information?
I'm certainly unaware of any precedent to that effect. The hearing on this point should be quite interesting.
