This is also on the DHS forum but I thought someone here might have some insight as well. Does anyone here remember the Julie Benell Show which aired on WFAA in the 1950s and early 60s. I believe it came on at 12:30 after the noon news, In fact it was the show that was interupted when WFAAs Jay Watson (the Program Director at that time) announced that JFK had been shot on 11/22/63. When (what year) did this show go away and why? I assume it it was canceled in the mid/late 60s as the times changed and diffrent programs were promoted,but I'm still not sure. Any help is appreciated !

Thanks so much !

I remember it on black and white but I don't remember it in color - we got our color set in 1968 after I nagged my parents to take me to Sears on Ross every Wednesday night to watch "Lost in Space" in color.

I remember it; don't think I really watched it but I'm sure my Mom did.

Default More Pictures

Here are some more pictures of the Julie Bennell Variety Show. The first one is in color, so perhaps its from the mid/late 1960s as the show was in black & white only as of 1963. The other two look older most likely from the mid/late 1950s.

Thanks and enjoy!

At that point in my life, I was more into Icky Twerp and the Slam Bang Theatre. Or maybe it was Micky and Amanda Mud Turtle?

Here's Ms. Benell's Obituary;

DALLAS, Jan. 2— Julie Benell, a reporter and editor on food who worked 25 years at The Dallas Morning News, died Friday after a long illness. She was 76 years old. Mrs. Benell, a native of San Antonio, was a former concert pianist who switched to the stage and later to performances on radio and television. She was the author of a recipe book , "Let's Eat at Home."

Both my Grandmother as well as my mother were watching the Julie Benell Show when JFK was assassinated.

Thanks,
JH

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone remember Ms. Benell's assistant Helen?

Thanks
