I'm moving from Austin and will soon be working in Dallas' uptown area. I am in my 20's, single, and have a large dog. I drove through some areas and the "M" streets/lower greenville area appealed to me, but I am concerned about the safety of the neighborhoods (taking my dog out after dark). I can currently only afford about $1000/mo rent. Also, are there any areas of downtown that are worth checking out?

If you aren't out at the late bars at 2 am on Lowest Greenville where the suburbanites come in and cause trouble, you will be fine. Of course I have been out that late many, many times over the years and never had any trouble at all - although mostly on the middle part of Lower Greenville. My faves are Terilli's, The Grape, St. Martin's, San Francisco Rose and Snuffer's. And I was in Stan's the other night, which looks like a dive but really attracts all types, including the high-powered. As a matter of fact I had some international oil-trader type trying to quiz me down about confidential info from my employer, an oil and gas consulting firm, but I just blew him off by asking him what he wanted to hear on the juke box.

I have two places in Knox/Henderson in the Cochran Heights Neighborhood and I lived in one for 8 years. The homeowner's meetings are at Candle Room - how cool is that? Cochran Heights : Home
