Most single people that are in their late 20's have at least one kid.

Here are some code words for this thread:

Sterile = not ghetto
No personality = I've never actually driven through the more established neighborhoods, and I'm still miffed that it's not ghetto
Prefer Allen = can't afford the land and type of house I want in Plano
Opinion from Austin = affronted by the idea that people might want to not live in a ghetto
LOL, what? Saying Plano is sterile is not code for saying it's not ghetto. Just that Plano doesn't seem to have that much character. It seems so new (the majority of Plano does) and is so clean and nicely trimmed. Compare this to nearby suburbs like Carrolton, or even McKinney, which has more character than Plano, imo, and feel less sterile. No personality? Plano has one. It's dress to impress, like you're rolling in dough ($), even if you're going to Target . Prefer Allen? Maybe people just like Allen better nowadays? They got a lot going on over there. Allen and Plano look almost no different though.

If you like where you live, that's all that matters. There are all sorts of neat places all over the metroplex...explore and see them all! If your priorities include shaking your booty at a bar or nightclub every night, then you might want to look closer to downtown. I never cared for that after college...that probably should be the last time anyone goes to a nightclub, in my opinion.
Basically.

A lot of the Plano numbers are based on the ratios of single men to women in the city, so obviously it's not like Plano is a ghosttown of single people, it's actually far from it, in the fact the EXACT opposite.

OP: According to Men's and Women's health, you are in the right spot.
Just because singles live in Plano, doesn't mean they actually play in Plano. I work near Legacy.....Shops @ Legacy is packed on weeknights because people who live in Plano don't want to drive 20 miles into Dallas & back on Wednesday night to get a beer or dinner. But on the weekends....all those people are playing IN DALLAS.

But as you already figured out, if you want to pay $700/mo for a brand new apartment, you've officially been priced out of all of those fun hip nightlife areas I mentioned above.

If you like it and you're happy there, good for you. I suspect as you make more friends in Dallas, you'll find yourself driving "into town" more and more, to the point where you may decide you want to live closer in, too.
I can see that happening. In fact, I did the same thing when I moved to Philadelphia, and them moved into the city once I learned my way around. I figured it would be easier to ease my way in slowly. I guess I can see that it is family oriented, which I do not have yet, but it does seem like there are a lot of cool places to go. I am definitley going to check uptown out once I get settled. I still have a condo in Philadelphia, so did not want to go overboard with paying high rent here, and my mortgage there.

People just want to discredit studies and surveys without doing any research into it, huh? I don't know why people can't accept it when publications come out and say that Plano, TX is a great city for singles.
