I'm looking at apartments right now, and I'm really considering the Village communities near SW BLVD and 75, due to their proximity to the freeway, amenities, and based what I have heard from people who have lived there. Google says this would be about a 27 minute commute, 40 in traffic, if I take 75 north and then head west on 635. Am I correct to assume this would be a reverse commute? I have a 30-40 commute now so this wouldn't be a huge deal for me. I know there is sometimes really bad traffic due to accidents, events, etc, but would it be reasonable to assume a normal commute time of 30-40 minutes from here to Coppell? I have a reliable car that gets pretty good mileage so the gas wouldn't kill me too much.

My job has standard hours of 8am-5pm so I would be on the road at the typical rush hours.

Thanks!

30-40 is realistic, but try to avoid 635. It's a notorious parking lot highway. Try routes that involve Loop 12- Northwest Highway, which is immediately north of the Village.

Also, FYI- it's Southwestern Blvd. No abbreviations. I grew up less than a mile from Southwestern and had no idea what part of town "SW BLVD & 75" was in when I read the thread title!

It's a reverse commute, so 30 minutes or so. I drive south on I-35 in the mornings, and the northbound traffic is almost always moving well.

However, in moving to Dallas, any route the uses 635 should be discarded in favor of one that does not.

It is kind-of a reverse commute if you take 635 out of the mix. From that location, you have a lot of options going east/west -- NW Highway, Forest, Royal, etc. My husband makes a similar commute (Lakewood to Valley Ranch) and he is usually about 40 minutes. Not sure about the evening since he works out by the office before coming home.

Good luck.

Thanks guys! I'm going to drive over there and try the commute during morning rush hour to see how it goes before I sign anything. Looks like I'll definitely be choosing a road other than 635.

635 is a commuter's nightmare in any direction. I've been rear-ended twice on LBJ (local name for 635) because the stop and snare traffic caught my rear drivers off guard!

Ditto about 635. Traffic on that road is never good.

I used to live in Irving and worked near Northpark. Taking NW Hwy was a lot easier than trying to brave the interstates. I'd look into that. Normally took around 30 minutes.

You can cut over on Southwestern to Northwest Highway using the back way to Boedeker (coming out at the Tom Thumb and the edge of North Park.

No need for Boedecker....he can just cut across 75 from the Village to Northwest Hwy via Caruth Haven.

My husband's new office is in Irving off Royal Ln - we live near White Rock Lake. He doesn't even get on the highway; he takes Royal for his east-west commute - it flows better and has less traffic than NW Hwy.
