OT, but fwiw I'm an ER doc with a BA in psychology. A good friend of mine from undergrad and med school is a surgeon and he also has a BA in psychology. My wife is a pediatrician and she does not have an undergraduate degree at all - she never graduated from college (just 3 credit hours shy).

Probably far fewer MDs have undergrad degrees in History though, right?
Based on DH's classmates, that is probably true. I knew some that got similar degrees. Science degrees take care of more of your pre-med coursework, so that is a big factor.

I am a doctor as well and know very few people who got their undergrad degrees in non science majors. I think all things being equal a med school admissions committee would look at a science and non science major as equal and maybe even give the edge to a non science major. However i'm not talking about communications or other fluff majors. Also, it is a big "if" when asking whether a person would do as well on the MCAT and on their core science GPA if they spend half their time learning russian literature. If they do, all the more impressive. But if you are a graduating high school student and want to get in, I think you are making it harder on yourself by splitting your efforts.

don't confuse GRAD school--like Harvard Business -- with an undergraduate degree from Harvard--where there is no "business" major

Wharton has an undergraduate in Economics--but you really only have two economics classes and the rest are business--accounting/finance/management/marketing--those are general business classes at other schools...
Cornell might have an undergrad in business but that is kind of forgotten Ivy League
