I know it's not in the area you're looking at precisely, but living around WhiteRock Lake is really, really nice and there are areas with decent schools. Commute isn't awful, at least better than coming in from Plano or Frisco (I love Frisco, Ikea is there!).

I recently discovered that we are about 10 minutes from Ikea--in no traffic. The best of both worlds--ready access to Ikea without having to live in Frisco.

You can do Flower Mound on that budget and the schools are excellent. My dad does the exact commute your husband will and it is typically about 40 minutes, though construction at DFW and on 114 might lengthen it for awhile--but once it is done it will be A LOT better and you can easily avoid the 635 madness for the next 5 years. We know a couple Southwest families that live in Wellington.

I don't know about the golf course, though--but you can definitely be near some nice ones. Wellington in Flower Mound has awesome neighborhood amenities and most of the schools are in walking distance.

Coppell is nice, too--however, the lots are smaller and everything is more expensive in general.

Here's a few in Flower Mound at different price points so you can get an idea. They are all in your price range and at least 2500 sq feet:

3304 Heather Glen Drive
3608 Lofty Pines
3605 Sandhurst
3912 Sharondale Drive (Wellington, $245k, walking distance to exemplary elementary school, pool, 2600 sq ft)

Not on that budget, though I agree it is a nice area.

FYI to anyone else reading this and considering renting in LISD or moving into LISD: LISD High Schools are on a college-like block system that makes transferring in and out a pain during the school year.

To OP--since your kids are Elementary School age it doesn't matter and renting might be a great idea.
