We are relocating to Dallas for my husband's job which is in Irving (George Bush and MacArthur). We are considering a home in Craig Ranch in McKinney...anyone have any thoughts? Also, heard the drive via tollway from McKinney to Irving is 45 mins max in rush hour. Is this correct? Any advice would be appreciated. We really want a new construction home and our price range is $250k max!

Any help/opinions are appreciated.

New homes we've researched:
-Craig Ranch (McKinney)
-Graff Farms (Irving)
-Saddle Club (McKinney)

I would reconsider a move to McKinney knowing you are working in Irving. Consider Flower Mound instead. Craig Ranch is also a questionable subdivision to consider in McKinney, Stonebridge Ranch is much better and about complete. McKinney overall is a VERY pretty area though.

Either way, listen to the people here when it comes to commutes, the realities on the ground are very different than what it looks like on Google Maps.

These should give you some good reading material to start learning about Craig Ranch. I think the bottom line is "buyer beware".

Irving schools are not great so I would not consider anything in Irving ISD if you have kids. Quite honestly, the commute from McKinney to Irving is going to be closer to an hour each way. That's pretty much the commute you're looking at from anywhere if you're insistent on brand new homes under $250k. There are plenty of great homes & neighborhoods within a 10-20 minute commute to Irving but they aren't going to be anywhere close to new. Updated, but not new.

Does FM have new homes under $250k? I thought pricing there was closer to Frisco's where you need about $300-350k & up to get the big new dream home.

And it's on a toll road, too, so figure at least $200 a month in tolls. Honestly, there are many closer suburbs that are just as nice, or better, than Craig Ranch.

Definitely not new for that price, but thought I would mention since there are alot of other reasons to consider that town. And $250k is a fairly active price point for Flower Mound. Anything new in FloMo is $400k and up. OP will have to reconsider new, but has probably been told "they can get a new home in Texas for $250k" by a bunch of people who know little about DFW.

Take this nice little home for example. MLS #:11590565

Nope. Nothing new in FM for 250K but you can get nice for 250K. There is very little new in FM. One development right on the edge near Lewisville (across from the new Lewisville HS 9-10th grade center) will run you about 370-430K for new and another near Wellington will run you 480-580K :/

Certain parts of Craig Ranch would be worth it...if you were closer to it. Travel time in rush hour to Irving=60-65 min. From Irving: 70 min. easy -w/out accidents.

I would suggest Coppell, Tx.
