After a disastrous few months near Walnut Hill & 75, I'll be heading north to Richardson.

I'm curious as to how you folks in the surrounding cities keep up with what's happening in your particular town. Does the DMN have suburban zoned editions tailored to your area, or is the DMN you buy at the Kwik E Mart in Plano or Wylie the same exact version of the one you buy in downtown Dallas? The regional page of the DMN has awfully sparse coverage.

I've already checked the Richardson neighborhood association map and I'll be living in an area that is not covered by one.

So, for you folks who like to keep current with the goings-on in your town, how do you do that? I'm looking for recommendations. I'm not sure I want to start attending weekly city council meetings quite yet!

Not sure I want to "like" the police department or the city government quite yet, but I think a couple of those links might be useful.

Agree with these. Also, if you have school age children, like their school FB page, PTA page and follow on twitter if they do that.

Some neighborhoods or cities have online forums or mail lists. Nextdoor covers some neighborhoods.

See if any of the city council members have a public FB page and friend them.

The DMN puts out different versions based on your city. It's in the abridged free version (at least in Plano) that shows up on your lawn everyday.

Now THIS is the info I was looking for! Thanks. I'll be in Richardson and will be an apartment dweller, so I'll be curious to see if the DMN does it there.

NeighborsGo for Richardson is Richardson-Lake Highlands and from what I hear from folks in Richardson, leans heavier toward Lake Highlands. But it's also a lot of reader submitted stories so I think that the LH folks must just do a better job of getting the word out that stuff is going on.

I lived in an apartment in Richardson a few years ago, but I don't recall if they left a paper or not. I vaguely remember the papers on my doorstep at some apartment, but I lived in lots of different places and they all blend together.

McKinney sends an email out weekly with everything that is going on downtown, at the parks, etc.
