I am a single parent to a small school age chlid. Currently I reside in Chicago but I am strongly considering relocation to the Dallas Ft. Worth area.
Any input on the the school system as well as employment opportunities there? My field is Accounting. However I am not a CPA.
Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, get a job first, then decide where to live. There are many great school districts all over the DFW metroplex. You'll want to live in one that's a reasonalbe commute (whatever that means to you - 15 minutes or 2 hours each way) from your office, especially considering you're a single parent.

Triple that.

Start with Craigslist.org and Indeed.com -- today.

Get at least a couple of Solid Offers. Real money, ideally some upfront.

Only other way is to at least of year or so of your own money in your pocket. But it is still better to work from someone else's money.

You will have to land ready to run. School starts only a little over 60 days, and you will have the 4th of July holidays to deal with as downtime in there.

I am in the process of relocating also and am also in the accounting field. My question is are the businesses open to giving people jobs that dont live in Texas? I have been scouring craigslist and indeed and I have found some postings with "local only" in them. What gives?

"What gives" is that there are plenty of unemployed and recent graduates here in Texas, too, so many employers have so many local candidates for jobs that it would be a waste of the employer's money to fly candidates in for interviews, pay for or subsidize a relo, etc.

If you are serious about moving here without assistance, I would CLEARLY state on all resumes & cover letters that you are fully prepared to cover 100% of your travel & relo expenses. Unless you are a mid-career superstar or a Top 20 university graduate, I would not count on any assistance in your move.
