I need a 9' sliding gate (aluminum or wrought iron) installed. I'll probably install an automatic opener later. Has anyone priced out a sliding gate or swing gate (or even an ornamental iron fence) like this recently? Any recommendations on a fence company that will do a good job for a decent price?

Thanks in advance!

Which city?

They all require permits for powered sliding gates. If you want to add power later you'll need to otherwise conform with code now. We installed a ~24 ft. sliding gate last year in Dallas, it cost $6,600 but we needed a few extras.

maybe it is just because I live in Tarrant county vs Dallas but I have only seen 1 house with a sliding vs swinging security gate--
it was in my old neighborhood and the original one lasted more than 20 yrs I think
the people who bought the house about 5 yrs ago had it replaced but don't know who they used

that takes a much stronger motor to operate and different mechanism than a swining gate with the pistion type of swing arm...

Could be a city by city thing.

Around me there are several dozen sliding gates and just a few swinging gates and they are all in front of mansions on Strait Lane.

ETA - it just dawned on me that several of the old houses around here without alley access have swinging gates. Sliding gates wouldn't fit.

Our's is a swing gate but Texas State Fence installed it and did a great job. They were very professional and the install was flawless (not cheap though). They were refered to us by a friend who had a sliding gate (wood) to enclose their driveway.
