Hi everyone,

I am thinking about moving to Florida or Texas. I have done some research, but I just don’t know which city has the lowest crime rate and the average housing cost is under $300K. I know someone has asked these questions already and I have seen some posts on line. I just want to get some up to date information as some of the posts were back in 2006. My first consideration is low crime rate and the best school system. I have heard that the property tax in Florida is really high. Is that true? Some say that St. Augustine is a nice city to live in, but the crime rate seems to be a bit high based on my research. I am currently considering FL or TX to move to, but have not made my decision yet. In Taxes, I want to live anywhere that is about 2 hours drive from Huston In FL, I want to live anywhere within 2 hours of drive from Orlando. If anyone can provide the information I am interested in, I will be greatly appreciated.

I agree with RCH99... 2 hours to Houston could mean starting IN Houston on some days, depending on traffic. Try Katy, Sugarland, The Woodlands or Kingwood for good suburbs within commuting distance. I think property tax rates are somewhere around 3% before the homestead exemption. If you move inside the city limits, be sure to check out the magnet school system. It's basically a program that lets your kid go to a better school than where your home is zoned to.
