I found the people to be a little less intimidating and easier to chit chat with out in public in than I have in other places...New York certainly, where too many people are trying way too hard to be cooler and edgier than everybody else. Dallas is definitely "bright lights, big city", but it's still Texas and still the South, which gives it pretty unique character compared to any of the major coastal cities I've been to or lived in.

1. How do people meet in Dallas? (do people rely on online dating, get approached in person, or mostly meet in bars?)

Thanks for answering
There is actually a lot of online dating in Dallas - I have friends here who met & married from Match.com, Eharmony, and J-Date.

People meet through various ways in Dallas- at the office, at church/temple (Temple Emanu-El is reformed & has a large young adults contingent), through hobbies (running groups, triathalon training, volunteer work), through friends/ set-ups, and randomly out at bars or in the neighborhood or wherever.

Tangentially: Median age at first marriage is three years younger in Texas (27 m / 25 f) as compared to New York (30 m / 28 f).

Glass half-full: The males here may be more commitment-minded.
Glass half-empty: There may be fewer available males here.

No doubt Texas's greater religiosity and greater affordability of setting up a household both have something to do with that.

From what I've seen living in Dallas the last several years, fewer avialable males is definately NOT a problem here... It's very rare that a typical big club or bar not have a higher percentage of single men competing for a smaller number of women (a friend of mine from LA visited once and after seeing a few clubs, asked "Uh, why are so many guys here?"). This means the guys in Dallas are much more willing to approach you and at least make some contact as opposed to other places where they aren't as needy.

I'm 27 so this is my experience:

Dating is more or less the same in every city, you have to get to a small town to get a major difference. Most people use one of the dating apps, some people meet through friends, some from work and more religious people meet at church.

If you're "not religious AT ALL," then I don't see why it would matter. Especially if you're pretty.
