Thanks for the info.. I thought they were mosquitos. Good to know I can stop swatting them away from the baby.
How long are they around for, do they disappear like they appeared.. out of nowhere?
We are moving to Dallas next month and were in San Antonio for 2 years. We have these enormous red wasps... do you have them up there as well? I'm kind of hoping to escape them.

Craneflies don't eat in their adult stage so their season doesn't last long.

We definitely had red wasps in abundance out east but I haven't seen any in Dallas. I wouldn't doubt there are some here, but not so common.

How long will they last? I noticed last year they were all of a sudden gone. I have read a few things saying they go in less than a month but they have been in here since Mid or the end of February and it is going to be April in a few days. I hate them I don't care if they don't hurt you, they are annoying. A huge one flew at my face a while ago and it scared me because I did not see it enter the room!

I figured they'd already be gone. I'm guessing it'll be any day now.

I had two on my glass door last night, it does seem like there are less now.

The craneflies are being replaced with June bugs. I'm not sure if they're better or worse.

^Does anybody remember the cricket infestation we had in the early 90's? OMG. THAT was the WORST! I remember going to my local Tom Thumb and not only seeing them -- huge, white-brick, exterior walls completely covered with chirping, black bugs -- bugs and bug carcasses all over the sidewalks -- but also smelling them and all of their dead, decaying friends!!

Do you remember that?! What the heck was that? I've never seen anything like it since. That could have been some sort of Alfred Hitchcock premise!

Noticed them the last several days in Sherman. Do we have to rename them March Bugs?

Crane Flies still hot and heavy here. Red Wasps are out too. Pill bugs starting. For whatever reason no mosquitoes here that I can tell (and they love me more than a $1000 hooker). Lions, Tigers, Bears, oh my! I think this is gonna be a bad bug year since we didn't have much of a winter.

I saw one single mosquito here all of last year. I thought maybe it was the drought but I saw a few on my visits to East Texas (less than they usually get but far more than here) and they were in a worse drought. I've been told they get pretty bad here but I'm wondering if Dallasites know what bad is.
