Budget Travel magazine a few years back did an awesome article on vacationing cheaply in Vegas. You may want to start with their website Budget Travel | Travel Deals, Travel Tips, Travel Advices, Vacation Ideas and do a search. We followed their advice and it was spot on. Also check some of the travel sites like Frommer's and Fodors for inside tips on where to get half price tix to shows, drink specials, food specials, etc.

One of my husband's favorite recommendations, which he still talks about on a regular basis, is the non-published dinner special at Ellis Island Brewery & Casino. $7 buys you a steak, potato, vegetable, roll, salad and beer dinner. And it has been that low price for quite a few years.

The weather starts really heating up soon over there and lodging prices drop drastically...if you can go in June, July and August you'll save a bundle.

Seriously? An HP person suggesting dining at Ellis Island? Even being willing to set foot in that dive is amazing. Shouldn't you folks be over at Skylofts or the MO?

Personally, I'm a DT guy, but that's because I go to Vegas to gamble, not to sightsee, so the available table limits are far more important to me.

Back to the OP:

Las Vegas Online Entertainment Guide - Complete information about Las Vegas gives you a comprehensive list of what's playing in Vegas for any given interval.

OpenVegas - Home Page and Travel 2 Las Vegas - Vegas Travel Information, Hotel Reviews, Casino Gambling, Discount Hotel Rooms, Secrets and tips are both active message boards for Las Vegas vacationers.

Southwest Airlines sometimes runs decent air/hotel packages to LV, but the flights out of Love Field aren't non-stop.

As mami2emily says, summertime is cheap because it's so hot. Nothing a DFW person can't handle with ease, though.

If this is your first trip, you'd want to be somewhere mid-strip. IMO, a first-timer should avoid the two ends of the strip - Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay/Tropicana on the south, and Wynn/Encore/Circus Circus/Riviera on the north.

Big G...We're long-time penny pinchers and proud of it! Hubby even pinches pennies while on an expense account. Our lot in life may have improved over the years, but our values have remained the same.

Cheapo Vegas - Vegas - Las Vegas Deals

I love this site, and their reviews are spot on. They also rave about the steak dinner at Ellis Island!

has anyone stayed at circus circus or one of the cheaper hotels. I always stay at planet hollywood and am considering staying at a budget hotel. I mean, heck, the only time i go there is to pass out or regroup.

I have stayed at Circus Circus and I pretty much call it the Walmart of the strip. I know folks who hate it but I no issues with the place. I will give Ellis Island a big thumbs up. Great food and dirt cheap compared to other places in Vegas. Plenty of websites that offer cheap trips to Vegas.

Oh my. Go to Cheapo Vegas - Vegas - Las Vegas Deals and read the reviews. There are some really sketchy places in Vegas when you get down to the bottom of the price range.

Default travelling with expired license

ok i realize there is a travel section but this question is specific to dallas.

has anyone flown in the dfw area without a license(My friend has one, it is 3 years expired).

TSA admin told me they can get him through it just may take some time. They said to bring whatever other proof he has. He lost his birth certificate but does have his SS card. Any advice or experience?
