I have not lived here very long and I really enjoy thrift store shopping but all of these stores here seem way overpriced for thrift store items. I have tried the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and another thrift store which I cannot remember the name of but the quality of merchandise is terrible. For example I went into a goodwill looking for kitchen appliances and found a toaster oven that someone put on the shelves with the food still in it. It just seems like I am striking out, is there any thrift store here that one would recommend. With the way some of the prices are, I mind as well purchase new, haha.

There is a very nice Goodwill at the corner of Alma and Spring Creek. There is another thrift store east of 75.

Thanks for replying but this is the exact one where I found the oven with food products in it. Also the story seems to be very disorganized from what I am used to.

Plano isn't really a thrift store kind of city. I think Tuesday Morning might qualify and Clothes Mentor also. Also check Craigslist for garage sales. That's the best you are going to find.

Ditto the garage sales... but the estate sales are usually the best and are mostly inside out of the heat! Check both the DMN and Plano papers for garage/estate listings today/tomorrow for the weekend sales that can start as early as Friday morning and last thru Sat or Sun.

There is a thrift store at Avenue K and 18th street. I usually find more there than at GoodWill or Salvation Army. Less furniture though.

Have you tried the Salvation Army Store in Dallas at Harry Hines and Inwood?

Disclaimer: I shop at these stores for costumes. I can't really say much about the prices or state of other goods.

I wonder why that is? Most wealthy communities have wonderful thrift stores (and used baby clothes/gear stores as well). Maybe you need to drive down to HP/UP to check out the Goodwill there?

Highland Park isn't any different than Plano in regards of Thrift Stores but there is one in Oak Lawn that is famous among Dallas budget fashionistas. I've heard office admins raving about it.

1) Recognizing the original post was made in 2012, so OP is almost certainly long gone from this thread.

2) I have no doubt there are no shortage of thrift stores to visit. However, they will require you drive a WHOLE 30 MINUTES OF ONE DAY OF YOUR LIFE out of Plano to Dallas!

Worse yet, you'll actually have to interact with people who don't live in gated, planned homogeneous communities where the worst problem EVER is how to get to both soccer and football practice AT THE SAME TIME! #firstworldproblems

In the meantime, Let me google that for you

and a most intriguing link from that: 10 Best Thrift Stores and Vintage Shops in Dallas | Dallas Observer

Spend one day of your life and live the adventure...you almost certainly really will be completely safe and may just find the treasures you say you are seeking (and I say that as one who lives in "Far North Dallas" or might as well be Addison).
