Hello Everyone, I am currently looking to move to dallas, can anybody give me any pointers, I lived on Long Island NY for 15, 3 years in NC and hated NC. can anybody tell me what is like living in the dallas area? things I might miss about the east coast? how is the employment market in dallas, pay, rent, etc, I am a gay man together with my partner ten years, so any pointers on that will great too.we are both hispanics (not puerto ricans or mexicans tho) any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I am currently living in Orlando FL, and dont like it here very much, I heard great things about dallas, I am still planning a trip to the area
thank you all for reading

Why did you not like NC or FL? What do you miss about the east coast? How would you define a good place for you to live? I think we can help you more if we knew these things about you.

I moved to the DFW area in 1978, left in 1980 and returned in 1982. I have been here since then. I have always found the area to have an upbeat pace and fairly strong employment market. The property taxes are high but -- with the exception of a few highly desirable areas -- the housing costs are comparatively low to other cities. The weather is good 2/3's of the year. Geographically the area leaves a lot to be desired. People are nice, but I like people everywhere. I have spend most of my adult life here, but we travel a bit, and as retirement approaches we are actively looking for another place to live where we can hike and enjoy mountains and/or the sea daily.

I think you will like Dallas a lot better than Orlando or North Carolina. I spent a semester in Raleigh during college and I was so bored there. DFW is substantially larger than Orlando and just offers so much more variety in shopping and dining. There's not much you can't find here. Dallas is not the most welcoming city, so come with an open mind. I think a lot of people are overwhelmed when they come, because it's not designed for tourist. It's really up to you to explore and find the things you want, but it's exciting and most people are really nice here.

Dallas is known for excellent gay nightlife! We have several Latin gay bars, and a whole neighborhood with gay bars in Oak Lawn. It's a lot more organized than Orlandos gay area. Most of the bars are located on one block down Cedar Springs.

Rent in Oak Lawn ranges from $800-1300 a month for a 1bdr.

The job market is good here, but still competitive. If you have a degree or specific skills/experience you should be fine.

Dallas is very diverse. However, the Latin population is primarily Mexican. Large populations of other nationalities here as well.

The only thing you might miss is the ocean, but road trips to Houston and Galveston are fun!

There's also a large gay population in Oak Cliff, a gentrifying area southwest of downtown.

Bishop Avenue Arts District - Bishop Arts District Dallas - Dallas gay neighborhoods - gay Oak Cliff - gay Dallas shopping and dining districts

I think you'll find Dallas a lot friendlier than Florida.

I agree with the finding Dallas a lot friendlier than Florida comment as I have experienced it personally.
Florida to me is filled mainly with former New Yorkers and transplants from the Northeast....and the great majority of them are rude and obnoxious.
