Working at Methodist Charlton Hospital for 13 weeks maybe more where to live? (Dallas: apartment complexes)

Does anyone have an affordable studio apartment close to Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas texas? I will be working in the operating room and taking a lot of "call" for at least 13 weeks, maybe 26 but need to be within 20 min of facility. I have never traveled with agency and have a nephew close, but not quite close enough? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jane RN

It's at the very southernmost border of the city of Dallas bordering a town called Duncanville. It's conveniently located with easy access 6 major highways. You can choose any place with access to 635, 20, 35, 45, 67 or 287. Some of the neighborhoods directly north and particularly northeast of the hospital are a bit scrappy. The area south of Dallas center is mostly African American. If you're comfortable with that, bargains abound. Going any other direction will lead you to more small town Texas locations. How good or bad I'm not sure. You can use the Dallas Police Dept website to evaluate area safety.

Stay away from Camp Wisdom Rd. That's not a nice area at all. One of my friends came to Texas as a travel nurse, and her company put her up in an apartment there. She can tell some pretty interesting stories about some of her neighbors there...

I agree with xS☺Be that apartment complexes near the Southwest Center Mall in Dallas aren't a good option for a person relocating from out-of-state with little knowledge of the area. I would recommend looking at communities to the south and west of Methodist Charlton, including Duncanville, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill.

Here are two apartment complexes that are across the street from the hospital. They are located in the city of DeSoto and your commute would be less than five minutes:

Mount Vernon - 1020 Scotland Drive, DeSoto, TX 75115
The Colonies - 2525 Bolton Boone Drive, DeSoto, TX 75115

The smallest one bedroom apartment in Mount Vernon rents for between $607 and $650/month. One bedroom apartments in The Colonies start at $645/month. There are also other complexes in Duncanville, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill that are a little further out, but still meet your desired commute time of 20 minutes or less.
