I stumbled on to this map. I love to see how pedestrian friendly, and progressive Dallas once was towards public transportation. The book Dallas: Rediscovered has some great pictures that show tons of people walking, but here are some free pictures of the good old days: Dallas Back In The Day

Wish I could have seen it then, but I'm cautiously optimistic with the expansion of the m-line. The new streetcar going from DT Dallas to Oak Cliff will be even better! DART Streetcar Project A Go « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

Very cool and interesting to a newcomer who loves this area! It's truly amazing how much more pedestrian-friendly and transit-oriented most cities were prior to WWII. The rise of "car culture" and the expansion of suburbs starting in the '50s helped kill dense inner cities and many transit systems by the '70s (including the city I grew up in and others I've lived in). Glad to see Dallas building what looks like will be a great system!
