My husband and I are relocating and considering renting a property near Holland and Wycliffe in Oak Lawn. Is this considered a safe area to live and occasionally run errands by walking? We do not know much about the area and greatly appreciate your feedback. Thanks so much!

That is a very safe part of Oak Lawn. People walk around all the time. The only thing I would be afraid of is crossing Lemmon Ave. because of all the traffic. People do it though. You can walk to quite a few restaurants from where you'll be living, and there's a Whole Foods really close.

It's one of the best neighborhoods in the central part of Dallas. It's pretty, architecturally diverse, and convenient to Uptown, downtown, Highland Park, Love Field, the Tollway and Central Expressway. But, yes, you are in the middle of a big city so all the usual precautions you would take in any city would apply.

I'm going to go ahead and agree with the others - that area is safe and beyond that it's super convenient to many of the coolest sub-areas of Dallas including areas south of I-30.

Remember these:
1. Bishop Arts District.....10/12 minutes away.
2. Drinks at The Belmont Hotel. When you see the hotel you'll likely hesitate, don't, have a drink or two at sunset looking at DTD. The Belmont is 7/8 minutes away from your new AO.

Welcome to North Texas!

So I decided to just drive around "south" Dallas yesterday for an hour or two and stumbled across the Belmont and smoke. HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN THIS AREA. They are building a house right there that will have one of the best views in Dallas hands down. I tried to drive up to get a better view, but it turned into a private drive. I did chuckle at what looked to be a Mexican Strip club across the street from Smoke though.

That's not a strip club. It's an event space, Salon Las Americas.

Did you get down to the Bishop Arts District or did your southerly adventure just stop at Smoke?

Ohhh, LOL. Looked like a strip, my bad. I actually found it on my way back. I think I made it all the way to DeSoto on the way out. I've been to Bishop Arts district before to eat at Lockharts.

I didn't realize that area was "south." I always thought of it as West Dallas. I guess it's south of the Trinity, but South Dallas is the roughest part of the city and it's north of the river.
