Hi,
We were out searching for a home and really liked Highland Village TX (Highland Shores neighborhood)

Any thoughts/insight on those homes? Safety, schools, family oriented ? etc.

Thanks!

Very nice area. Traffic gets really jammed on 35 in both directions during rush hour, however

As noted, very nice, pretty area, I believe it all feeds into Marcus HS which is very good, and I assume the elementaries are high quality as well.

However, where would you be commuting to? It's a bit up NW in the Metroplex, and access to other areas can be difficult (35E as noted is very busy).

Default Commute

I am also interested in the area. Will be commuting to Dallas (75 and Park lane). Traffic at rush hour on google appears to be 45-50 min, and I have heard is not as bad going east west as it is north south. Any thoughts for those familiar with area/ traffic patterns?

We've lived in Highland Village (Highland Shores) since 2002 and absolutely love it here. It is very family oriented with good schools, excellent shopping and a growing restaurant base. We've found it to be a safe place to live, with a vigilant, engaged police department (located across the street from the entrance of Highland Shores). The fire department and city hall are there too (voting). There are two hospitals nearby, lots of churches to choose from, plenty of medical / dentistry professionals and several parks and soccer fields. Highland Shores has three nice community pools and multiple tennis courts too.

As for the commute, that is an "it depends" question. I am in sales and work out of the house as well. I commute all over Dallas-Fort Worth and I've found it to be like any other city. Right now DFW is seeing a lot of growth and therefore there is a lot of road construction taking place.

I-35E is under construction, so I try to stay clear of it and use other routes until completed. I use FM 2499 (a.k.a. Long Prairie Rd.) a lot and can make it to DFW Airport in less than 30 minutes. I can be in downtown Dallas or downtown Fort Worth in approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. We are also close to I-35W as well.

Hope this helps!

Just no. That will be a horrible commute. NORMAL traffic will be an hour each way. Add bad weather, or an accident, and you are looking at closer to 1.5 hours each way!

CrudeGuy, why would you not just live near your job? You can get just about anything (from a $40,000 condo to a $100 million estate) within 15 minutes of 75 & Park Lane.

Google is wrong. During normal commute times, that drive will be soul-crushingly bad on a good day.

Daily, that will be a tough "to & from" commute during peak traffic. If that is where you plan to office I would look elsewhere, perhaps along the Dallas North Tollway north of I-635 or along I-75 north of I-635.
