Good for them if it does... Why are there so many "for lease" signs Las Colinas Blvd near the canal??

Uptown is the best option as of right now...

Living in Las Colinas at 25 or any age would be extremely boring. It's good for Indians who want to be close to other Indians or people who work there and hate commuting, but that's about it. There's just not a lot to do out there.

You'll enjoy living in Uptown a lot more, and the commute is definitely worth it!

West Village is a great area, and the brand new 3700M building has shops on the ground level, that will add more great retail to the area. Pretty much every Post and Gable's building have cool things to walk to, and they manage most of the buildings in Uptown.

The new Entertainment district and Concert arena should add a lot.

In a few years it will be giving uptown a run for it's money.
It will probably be more for the higher end empty nester or mid age professional who wants to live near work or the airport.
The indoor/outdoor convertible music factory venue should be sweet.

I'm 90% sure I have decided on the Uptown area.

So here is my situation, I'm big on planning have spent a ton of hours reading the boards and other sites but I can't find true data about the "real" commute time from the Uptown area to Las Colinas area where the office is located.

Being new to the city I would like to live in Uptown with other young professionals as I think it will help me with not being bored and will give a great opportunity to meet people. Also, I like the urban life rather than suburban familyville. Although, if the commute is insane what is living in Las Colinas like for a 25 year old?

Any feedback and insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
yeah, you would have to find a small pocket where the neighborhood is younger guys. With 1300-1400 close to the Microsoft area (around 161 and Royal) there are younger corporate types there. You could also choose to live halfway between that location. I'd say in Addison is ok. That way you're not all the way in Uptown but you still get the restaurants and happy hour that uptown brings.

Uptown if you spend your money on booze and like to party. Las Colinas if you want peace and quiet. That's the best way to describe it. Uptown will be pretty young. Las Colinas is more 28-35 I'd say.

I live in Las Colinas myself as a 29 year old with decent income. Access to major highways in every direction a mile or two out in every direction. No noise. [mod cut]Trails. Absolutely beautiful as and feels open.

They're building the "music factor" in all that land around the convention center. I suggest you Google it for details, but it will be very enjoyable by adding some entertainment to the area.

Every one I know out there is 40+. I don't know anyone my age or younger living out there. I know plenty of people who rarely drink and choose to live in Uptown. They enjoy the walkability, the large amount of dining options, the great parks, the larger dating pool, and the close proximity to all the other excellent city amenities.

At least the "drunks" in Uptown won't be taking the highways. Every apartment has some noise, you can choose to close your windows and doors, and have peace and quiet just as easily in Uptown. Plus, many parts of Uptown especially near Turtle Creek and the Katy Trail are tranquil, with way more natural beauty to see.

Ok that's nice. Uptown residents are minutes from the American Airlines Center, The House of Blues, The Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum, and many other performing Arts Centers including The Dallas Arts District...

I would not suggest Las Colinas to any single person not in an established long term relationship who is under age 40. If you are 29 and in an LTR that doesn't have any imminent sign of a breakup and you work close, then it could be feasible. But otherwise, Uptown or more Central Dallas neighborhoods are the ticket.

Go for Uptown! I would not want to live in Las Colinas if I were 25 years old. Commute is manageable.

Thank you all!

I have been here for about 3 weeks now. I actually decided to go for the Uptown area. I'm living in the West Village area and love it. Very walk-able, great shopping and restaurant options. Gym is 2 mins away. Perfect location! Glad I selected Uptown over Las Colinas. Las Colinas is nice but very business parkish and suburban.

The commute is not too bad in the a.m. average 20-30 mins, although the drive home is around 45 mins. Found a short cut through Oak Lawn.

Overall, I am loving Dallas over Charlotte and look forward to posting a review to help other young professionals who are looking to move to the Big D.
