We found a great house in Plano (East) and are thinking of putting in a contract. We're not from Texas and schools are important to us. We've been having a hard time finding a house that fits our needs for 200k but this one seems to be great....I'm a bit concerned about the school district. It contains Memorial Elementary and Bowman middle both received "academically acceptable". This scares me a bit as a new parent (daughter is 2) and wanted to get some feedback and hopefully some first hand experience.

Thanks,
Aaron

i did not go to memorial or bowman, but went to forman/armstrong, then to williams (which bowman also feeds into), and the plano east.

it's not so bad. but i graduated hs in 98, so i dont know how much it has changed.

It looks like Memorial is a majority low income (70%) and majority minority school - Hispanic (60%) and black (13%) and usually with schools with more lower income kids and more minority kids, they don't have the higher school ratings. Also they have a higher special ed percentage (12.7%) and their test scores will count towards the ratings. Doesn't mean you can't get a good education there. Just depends on the school. According to the Just 4 Kids wesbite, however, the school does not do very good compared to schools with similar demographics. National Center for Educational Accountability/Just for the Kids Bowman looks like it does a bit better.
