Hello. Just joined the forum.

My wife will be relocated to Dallas to work at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. So, we are searching around to find out where we should be moving to. We are a family of three with a four year old boy. We also are originally from Japan and English is second language. I have lived in U.S. for over 20 years, so I don’t have problem living in a place with English speaking people. The things that are important to us are:
- Safety. Able to live in a single family house without worrying about robberies.
- Education. Good public school.
- Fairly close to the airport. Less than 30 minutes without traffic. Less than 60 minutes with traffic.
- Preferably an area with relatively more Japanese people so we can blend in more.
- A single family house that is 20 years old or less and values between $250k and $350k.

We have been researching for only about a week yet, so we hardly know anything. But we started to consider Southwest of Plano. Zip code 75093 area. Around 30 minutes to the airport. Good schools (Number wise). Some houses in the price range. Around 15 minutes to a Japanese school for my son on Saturdays.

But that’s just an example we found with such a little research. I wanted to hear locals’ advice on where we should be looking at. I appreciate any advice.

Welcome!

You will get lots of good advice from the forum. Check out Fort Worth's Japanese School as well. Grapevine could be a great Tarrant County option for you just West of DFW airport. Safe community, houses in your price range, and great public schools. I'm sure others can speak to the Dallas options.

You should look into Coppell as well. Not far from the airport, good schools, and a safe, suburban area.

Agree, but in their price range they will be competing with cash buyers and it is an almost impossible price range. Last summer we were looking at everything from 350-500K in Coppell ISD, and it was rough.

Thank you very much for the information.
Grapevine and Coppell both seem like really good places. More research to do now

I would offer more advice on Grapevine, but I have no idea where the closest Japanese school would be. Grapevine also doesn't have a whole lot of houses that are under 20 years old since the large majority of the city's housing was completed in the mid-late 1980s. You will, however, find many lovely homes that have been well maintained and updated.

Grapevine, Coppell, and Flower Mound. You may have a difficult time buying in that price range in any of those cities though

You might want to consider some areas of Bedford and Euless. Schools that feed into Bedford Heights and Meadowcreek Elementary. North Euless.. feeds into Grapevine Colleyville ISD schools

Viridian in Arlington is a nice master planned community and we've seen new homes in this range, Viridian elementary is a new schhool within community...of course, city dump is across the street which some people dont prefer but the community itself seems really nice.

Thank you very much for all the information. It looks like our relocation is getting pushed back by a few years.

So far, we really like Coppell and southwest of Plano equally. The Japanese school is right in between also. Coppell is closer to the airport, but the houses are older. We like the sizes of the houses in Coppell. We like smaller houses. Less cleaning to do. In a few years, there might be more Japanese in Plano because of the Toyota headquarter's move. So, we might like Plano better at that time. Until then, we'll just be up to date with the real estate changes and local news. And visit all these places a few times in different seasons.

Thank you very much again.
