You need to live as close to the Tollroad as possible (<5 minutes to on-ramp). If you do this, you can live as far south as Wycliff exit and stay within the 30-35 min range AM. PM will still take about 15-20 minutes longer if you leave the office between 4:45-6:15ish. North Oak Lawn (75219 north of Lemmon) is a great city neighborhood, the West Lovers Lane area (west of Tollroad, neighborhoods called Devonshire, Briarwood, & Greenway Parks/Crest) is walkable & lots of younger singles/ couples/ young families. I don't love Addison but it is younger than other suburbs and about halfway between uptown & Legacy on a weekend.
Very helpful! Walkability is something I love about where I've lived, so if I can keep that part of my life intact it would be great. I'll stick close to the toll lane if that's the way I go.

It'd be about a 5 minute commute for me, and while it wouldn't save my girlfriend a ton of time, she'd get full mileage and toll reimbursement, which I calculated would save her around $2,000 for the year. I'm aware of Addison's shortcomings, but the money and time saved is too tempting.
I looked at the design district too and thought the same thing in terms of surface streets, etc. It seems kind of isolated over there from what I saw, but I'm not looking at it in person.

Addison is probably option 2, but I've made the move back to the suburbs briefly (6mo.) before and was miserable, but that was years ago and I want to keep an open perspective. Life would be easier in terms of $ and commute, but that's just one factor. Will keep your advice in mind.
