Hello every body.
Im planning to move from chicago to Arlington TX due to my son's critical health condition (he is not supposed to live in cold nor humed areas).
Im trying to see if that city is 1. safe. 2. Has good schools and 3. there are good job apportunities.
BTW, Im Arabic and dont want to go to a place where ppl are not accepting or there is some high level of racism against nationality diverse.
I would really appreciate it if you share with me whatever you know about that city.
God bless you all

Arlington can be humid in the summer, and it does get cold here in the winter. Schools in AISD are marginal for the most part. You might look into El Paso, TX and Arizona for a better climate for your son.

Thank you
I tried Arizona before (when I was single) it has no jobs plus the weather is extreme there as well. Is there any other city in dallas/ fort worth area that you recommend?

All of DFW has the same weather: hot, humid summers and winters that can be cold. If you are serious about your son's health, you need to look at a different climate. I'm surprised you say Arizona had "no jobs." What kind of work do you do?

Sorry for the late reply. i was extremely busy.
Phoenix is more consistently baking while Dallas will have more breaks in the heat.
My work is in HR dept of automotive company.

I also check out the real estate market in both cities. There is definitely no comparison between them. DFT home r much nicer & much cheaper.

Why are you surprised about this? I lived in Phoenix. The quality of jobs is pretty lackluster there. Phoenix was a nothing of a city before World War 2. It's not established and doesn't have a good base of corporate HQs there. I left Phoenix for Dallas because of the better base of corporate HQs and more job opportunities.

The standard advice around here is know where you'll be working. It's such a huge area you don't want live in South Arlington and work in North Plano.

Arlington is a good city. The farther south you go the newer the homes. Far south is Mansfield which has good schools and a nice city.

Ah it is so humid here so very much of the time! How about New Mexico, such drier weather.

Demographics - Arlington is a diverse city so you will have no problem fitting in. There are many Arab, African, Hispanic, and Vietnamese immigrants in the city and you really can't tell what the majority demographic is.

Job Market - Overall DFW is a better job market than Arizona, Chicago or New Mexico and due to the oil bust it is probably the best place to look into right in Texas (Austin would be a good bet as well). Looking closely at Arlington, GM recently announced a 1 billion expansion of their plant there so expect that to help the local economy.

Climate - It is hot most of the time but I would be really precautious during the winter. It can get really cold sometimes. Due to your son's condition I would rate Austin, San Antonio, and Houston above DFW on this. Houston is not doing well right now in regards to jobs however.

Schools - I wouldn't put AISD among the best but they aren't as bad as Chicago's.
