Cedar Hill & Desoto I hear is a middle class neighborhood, but which should be considered the better aesthetic looking homes? At 200k

If a house in Cedar Hill is compared to one of similar size, age, and price in DeSoto, the differences aren't going to be that drastic in my opinion. Of course there are variations in the look and layout of homes and neighborhoods based on who developed the specific subdivision or neighborhood, but it pretty much comes down to personal preferences in the end. Both cities have nice neighborhoods to choose from.

I agree. I would go by the house, subdivision and elementary school. Wherever, you can find a better combo.

I'm really looking to move to Arlington next year but Cedar Hill is on my radar.

The homes in lakeridge and wood estates are amazing (especially wood estates). I'm talking real prestigious. Those homes would make people in Plano jealous.

Check it out. Neighborhood south of the Intersection (Lake Ridge Pkwy and Mansfield Rd). Also, the neighborhood north of where w belt line rd meets mansfield rd (wood estates).

I may still choose arlington but if I see a dream home in one of these areas (especially wood estates) I am gone! Cedar Hill has more prestige than Desoto.

Those are good looking houses but there are so many other factors that count when you pick where to live. If Plano people were really jealous, there is nothing stopping them to sell their homes and move to said prestigious houses and still save some money. I for sure wouldn't be living in an HP condo if a fancy property was available with all the added perks my town gives me.

Those areas are indeed very nice, but the homes aren't in the OP's price range. There are other neighborhoods in both Cedar Hill and DeSoto that are, however.

True... and I may have exaggerated a bit.... But since OP likes this area, check out those neighborhoods... I'll put it like this.... You won't envy people living in other areas of the metroplex if you are in one of those neighborhoods

The only bad things to say about it is: Cedar Hill ISD, higher property and violent crime in areas that you are likely to shop/eat/play, and being around folks with lower income in areas that you shop/eat/play. I'm sure there are more higher paying jobs on the northside of the metro as well. But if you've settled on this area, those neighborhoods are great...

And yes, you may have to spend a little more than 200K. Homes can still be found in both areas for less than 250K but you'll have to look hard. A 350k budget will definitely get you in either of these areas.

Check out these homes that sold in the areas I'm speaking of:

Wood Estates listed for 190K: http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...20-61150?row=1

LakeRidge, This home listed for 200k: 2800 Singletree Cv, Cedar Hill, TX 75104 | Zillow

More importantly,,, check out google maps and take a street view walk tour of these areas... True bliss... especially if you are a middle/upper middle class black that favor suburb/country style bliss and would like to be around other successful people that look similar. This is the closet DFW gets to something like Baldwin Hills LA, Bowie MD in PG County or the upper class black hoods of the Atlanta GA region.... These two Cedar Hill Neighborhoods aren't predominately black but they are floating around 50%. Full of professionals. I really like the area but still may choose Arlington for its central location, closer proximity to work, better schools, and close proximity to things I actually care to do.

Two years ago would've been the time to get in those areas for under 200K, you may have to spend a little more now but it will be worth it.... even if it means living without cable or getting a Chevrolet instead of a Mercedes for a while.

Cedar Hill is one of the more scenic parts of this metro. I know that doesn't address the main real world considerations, but it's a big one for me. If one didn't need to consider job location, commute, schools, etc I would choose Cedar Hill or Rockwall to live.
