I posed this question on the Atlanta board. Dallas and ATL are on my list. I currently live in Nashville and it's not what I had hoped for. I'm looking for a diverse place. Something that's more of a melting pot than where I am. Is Dallas that kind of place? Also, is it realistic to think I could relocate without a job first but find something in a few weeks or couple months? I have savings that could last almost a year but no one wants to exhaust their safety net. Thanks in advance!

Yes you can absolutely in Dallas. That place is a hot bed for IT jobs. I moved there initially without a job and had no problems finding one after a few months. Dallas wasn't what I thought it would be so I moved away, but I can definitely vouch for the employment opportunities there.

I believe you can also, definitely a diverse place in Dallas and all the close in burbs. Maybe register with a temp agency.

well, Dallas proper is roughly 50% white but the burbs quickly approach the same levels as Nashville.
The DFW metroplex is huge so you can generally find whatever suits you as far as diversity goes but hard to recommend without knowing more about what you are looking for specifically (churches, schools, sports, activities etc.)
For example, NYC is probably the most diverse city in terms of a global melting pot. In those terms, Dallas doesn't seem very diverse from my experience.

I agree with jDallas. I'm in the same boat as you. Work in IT, live in Nashville and can't wait to get out. I've been considering Dallas and Houston but leaning towards Dallas as I am more familiar with the city after having lived there back in the late 90's and early 00's. Really looking forward to going back. I've been to Atlanta a few times and thought it was ok. Never really gave any serious thought of moving there though.
